Rishabh Pant is presently in the process of recuperating from injuries he suffered in an accident that occurred on the night before the start of the new year.
According to a report from PTI, Abishek Porel, the wicketkeeper-batsman from Bengal, will be replacing Rishabh Pant in the Delhi Capitals squad. Pant, who is the regular captain of the team, is currently recuperating from injuries sustained in an accident on New Year’s Eve. In his absence, David Warner will be leading the DC team in the upcoming IPL season, while Axar Patel has been appointed as the vice-captain.
Abishek Porel had been a part of the training camp for Delhi Capitals along with three other wicketkeepers – Luvnith Sisodia, Sheldon Jackson, and Vivek Singh, for an extended period of time. However, the franchise ultimately selected the 20-year-old as a replacement for Rishabh Pant in the upcoming season. The head coach of DC had earlier mentioned that finding a replacement for a player of Pant’s caliber would be a difficult task. Additionally, there have been reports suggesting that the Capitals are preparing Manish Pandey and Sarfaraz Khan for the wicketkeeping role as well.
Ponting had expressed his thoughts on the potential loss of power in the middle-order, citing Aman Khan, Rovman Powell, and Axar Patel as examples. While Patel’s batting has seen significant improvement in the last 12 months, Ponting acknowledged that finding ways to compensate for Rishabh’s absence is possible, but a player of similar quality may not be readily available.
